...in a corner with a book...

"everywhere have I sought peace and found it nowhere, save in a corner with a book"
Thomas a Kempis
without being irreverant about where true peace is most indeed found, this quote above is very true for my life. when the day has been rough and full of angst i can turn to a book and find a sense of peace and contentment. when the day has been full of joy even, turning to a book finishes the day just as a cherry does on a sundae. to restore energy in my life, to take a time out from the busyness of life, to simply enjoy life i settle with a book, a cup of tea and a blanket make for good finishing touches but are not necessary components. the book doesn't even if have to be new and unread, in fact rereading books is more preferable (is that a word?) to me. that way i already know the characters a little bit, and i can revisit with them, and sort of flow with their life for a time -- i have two books that i have reread many, many times - wilderness by karen ball and the princess by lori wick -- now i've read 'better' books, more engaging -- yet something about these two stories and the characters draw me in each time. my heart skips a beat when i read about mady and jason, and how they discover each other, yet along the way each discover God in a new and vibrant way (wilderness). then there's the princess, my heart laughs and at times wants to cry with nicolai and shelby as they navigate a strange commitment to each other...*laugh* just writing makes me want to go and pull them off of my bookshelf :)
but thomas a kempis sums it up rather well: everywhere have i sought peace and found it nowhere, save in a corner with a book
