26 years...

26 years ago today my parents pledged to a lifetime of love and commitment. 3 children, 2 countries, approximately 16 jobs, 5 maybe 6 (?) living accomodations, 5 dogs, 2 cats, and much more inbetween later they celebrated their anniversary today as empty nesters. Well, they are empty nesters in the sense that none of their 3 children live at home; however they went away for their anniversary and with them they took the two littlest members of our family - Tetley and Latte - yes, the two doggies (see pic to the right).
This morning I called them to wish them Happy Anniversary, and Marissa chimed in. I told her that they had been married for 26 years and she responded "That's a lot, I can't count that high!" 26 years is a lot, even more is 50 years (I know, really?!) but my grandparents will celebrate 50 years in August. The way that marriages are going I hope and pray that for Marissa 26 years when she is married, really is not"a lot."
Even then though, if you think about it - marriage that is, and changing tides when it comes to getting married - people are getting married later in life... My mum was my current age when she got married - isn't that crazy?!
26 years is many years - and I raise "my glass" to my mum and dad for their 26 years together - and the the lessons of love and life they have in turn shared with many. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!
