"If you want him to be always by your side, take his hand tonight, swallow your foolish pride"
It is ironic how songs, movies, books, etc often play into situations current in life - this song ("Tell Him") was sang last night on American Idol, my mum directed me to listen closely to the lyrics, hence the blog with lyrics. My mum, and my dad for that matter, have been instructing me in the ways of dating and their "piece de resistance" is to simply tell "him" (Boaz) - my mum is a little more direct - "just take his hand yourself!" (Yes, for the oh so many readers Boaz and I are still very much in the early stages of dating - in fact I've shifted it to "hanging out" - stay tuned for later blogs to find out why!!!) The whole take his hand, made the lyrics highly appropriate.
What gives it the added twist is the fact that the song is British; so what I want to know is that a theme in Britian/England - for the women to take the initiative - is it breed through the English blood?
The February 29th tradition is, as far as I know, unique to the UK.
Maybe there is more boldness spoken into the females of England as they grow and mature.
But that's all well and good when you're matching two English datees, or even an American and an English lass, but what about the merging of a French man and an English lady - what then ...?
Hmmm, I'll return to that thought!!!
Back to "Tell Him" - it isn't the first time I've run across that sentiment. It seems to echo through literature and pop culture alike, the often unspoken rule that women need to offer the encouragement for the interested party to proceed.
WEll, really it is much more than "encouragement." As Jane Austen puts it the the women must show nine times the amount of affection actually felt. In some ways projecting onton, even into the relationship a process of emotions and successive actions.
Ultimately the woman has to put her heart out on the line and take that risk --
"Love is giving someone the ability to destroy you, but trusting them enough not to." While that may be extreme, that is what it boils down!
Is it worth the risk? Worth swallowing "my" foolish pride?
Time will soon tell I suppose..................
