It's The Journey And Not The Destination
I am sure some famous person said this, and I am sure I should know who but I don't, I do know I said it today to a three year old.
We (Marissa, Michael, and myself) set off for an evening stroll, anything to break up my fifteen hour work day. As we started out Marissa asked me, "Where are we going?" "Around the block," I told her. "But where are we going?" She persisted. "Mariss, sometimes it's the journey and not the destination!"
And that's the truth. It certainly rings true for this week of my life. It has been the journey, especially as my view of the destination is now sharply in contrast to the reality. But really, the journey is most often more important than the final destination, because along the way the destination can change, can shift, yet the experiences of the journey are the reality.
The flip side is, despite the fact that we were simply heading around the block, our ultimate destination was home. We were leaving, simply to return again. Our destination in life is home, our ultimate destination that is. And the journey home is of much more importance than home itself. We are exhorted to run the race with perserverance - to keep going on this journey of life. We are encouraged to live our life, to maintain our journey, with faith, hope, and love...to glorify God in all that we do...that's the journey, that's the journey that's not the destination. Along this journey we learn more deeply who God is, we learn who we are in Christ, and we come to the startling realization that we have a long way still to go; which makes me glad that it is that sometimes it's the journey and not the destination!
