stinky feet

I’ve been smelling this awful smell all afternoon, and I wrongly assumed that the smell was emanating from my brother’s feet. He had been out most of the day at the soccer fields, and his feet do tend to carry an odor that just is not pleasant.

However, he left and that smell was lingering. I realized that the smell, the stench was in fact coming from my own feet.

Isn’t that often the case when it comes to sin in our lives. We sit around and can smell the odious stench of sin, and we are quick to lay the origin of that smell at someone else’s feet (pun intended)!! In reality it is the sin in our own lives that proffers up that stench.

As a Christian we have to come before Christ, and have our feet washed just as He washed the feet of the disciples. We have already been forgiven and washed clean, but walking in the streets of this world tends to dirty our feet and cause that smell.

Spraying on perfume may momentarily cover that smell, but in the end the clash of those two smells becomes worse than the original stench. It is only by humbly coming before Christ Jesus, and admitting where the smell is coming from, by admitting where we have walked during the day, and by admitting what we have stepped in that gives Jesus that opportunity to wash our feet.

So with that, I am off to wash that smell off my feet!!!
