the itsy bitsy spider

The Itsy Bitsy Spider Went Up The Water Spout

Down Came The Rain

And Washed The Spider Out

Out Came The Sun

And Dried Up All The Rain

And The Itsy Bitsy Spider Went Up The Spout Again!!!

Only problem, this spider wasn't so itsy, and she didn't climb up the spout, and the rain didn't wash her down, and she didn't climb back up, and I am not sure where she scampered off to.

I don't like spiders. I am not quite sure what propelled me to take such close up shots of the spider, and have them on my camera, then computer, and now blog - but the spider was large, and black and was creeping up the wall both stealthlike and quickly.

The thing with not liking spiders is projecting that dislike, that fear onto someone else. I saw the spider at work, and the little girl spied it to, and we watched it as it ascended the wall, turned our backs for but a second and when we looked back the spider was no more! My first reaction was to scream like a banshee, and hop from leg to leg - even though as far I knew the spider wasn't anywhere near me; yet I restrained myself for the sake of the child, and I merely let out a shudder of distrust for that itsy bitsy spider that was now loose on the floor. My shudder was enough though to transfer my fear and dislike of the spider, and Marissa was at once alert for the spider.

I think we often do this in life. We project our feelings of fear, distrust, doubt, anxiety onto others. In our quest to live we forget that power of emotions, and unlike positive expressions of thought (joy, content, trust, etc) the negatives spew out, notice the word "spew" doesn't imply anything pleasant now does it?! And as they spew they infect the other person. I found this to be true not only in the fear of the spider, but also in speaking negatively with someone about a shared complaint, rather than allow freedom from the issue it fostered further complaint.

All this to say, beware of the itsy bitsy spider -- do you know that supposedly we eat nine of her kind a year???!!! That's one drain pipe they climb up :)
