books

Yes, well they do say a picture is worth a thousand words, and the four above pictures should tell the fateful tale of my much loved younger brother and the sad but honest truth of my slight obssession with books and their upkeep.

Ronnie didn't read the above bent book, his girlfriend did. His job was to return the book to me. In the course of the return the book now looks as you see it above, bent and creased, etc. The thing is when it comes to books, any book, I read them and maintain an almost immaculate condition, such so that after reading the book it looks just as it did when I bought it. I would even go as far as to say I can read a couple of times through without bending at the spine, without creases in the pages or the book jacket. Most of my books lining my shelves have been read more than once, some bear the stains of having been lent out to the less than immaculate keeping readers, while others have come mastered the learning curve set before them of reading a book without bending it, and without etc.

So Ronnie in momentarily storing my book, managed to mangle it. Now a few years ago I was much more serious about any injustice perceived against my books, and the loaning of my books to others has been cultivated through the years. Such so in fact that with most that borrow the books a certain sense of trepidation looms as the hold in the book in their care.

I've had apologies for water spilt across - I can accept that, I am not a fan of water damage, but accidents happen. I have had nonchalance for sweat stains - this is not a good thing, and still rankles my cage from time to time.

Ok, well so I had four pictures - that's four thousand words right there, and I just wrote maybe another couple hundred or more, so I will leave you now and go in search of yet another book to read and devour and to keep in pristine condition.

If you borrow a book you are wont to have to first pass inspection, and no Ronnie will not be borrowing any books nor will he be transporting any in the near future!!!

Notice that his face shows no remorse!!!!!!

ok...great blog regarding books - but you failed to mention mum's Pride and Prejudice........... I think someone named Ellie read the book and as I recall it was not returned in pristine condition - far from it!

Comment emailed from my mum...and yes there is truth to this little sidebar story!!!
