Do you ever find yourself using a word to the point of over extension? As I was penning another blog I went to write "It's funny..." and I stopped myself and in the briefest of moments asked myself: what did I mean by the use of that word..."funny." Funny in what way: strange, amusing, disturbing, intriguing, interesting, awkward -- it can be a slightly ambiguous word word when used as a descriptor.
I notice that I used "funny" extensively. For instance I may refer to my boyfriend as being funny: "You're funny." Do I mean he is strange? Amusing? Disturbing? Or...
Speaking of overused words and my boyfriend, he overuses the word "alright." What does it mean? In one instance the utterance of alright can be "well, I'm really not enjoying standing here, pretending to 'fellowship,' so we should leave." Or "let's go," "yes," you ready?,"you ok?," "does that work for you?" OR merely used repitively in the illusion of annoyance :)
But think about it, there are 1000s, upon 1000s of words and we more than often use the same 100 or so words, and use the same words to describe varied emotions and circumstances.
SO let's make a pact, a pact to incorporate all those wonderful and marvelous words that make up the English language.
