Ever been stuck behind a slow driver? I was last night as I travelled to Kickboxing. But not just one slow driver, a series of slow drivers. It didn't seem to matter whether it was on the freeway, the expressway, or on the side street I was perpetually behind a slow driver. My initial reaction was one of an inkling of frustration, but then as I wasn't exactly in a rush I began to mull over being stuck behind slow drivers, and this was my conclusion.
It is often like that in life. You are driving down the road of life and you get stuck behind a slow driver. You in fact have three choices, you can stay stuck behind the slow driver and moan about it and get frustrated and allow it to ruin a perfectly nice travel, OR Choice #2: you can change lanes and go on your way. Sometimes in life you need to move out from under those that slow you down. If you know the way you're going, and opportunity presents itself to move forward, you need to take it, and if you aren't going to, you need to not complain. There are people in our travels that will slow us down, and we need to take the initiative and press forward.
Choice #3 shifts the perspective. If the "slow" driver is in fact not slow, but actually driving the speed limit and obeying established rules, then perhaps you the driver needs to slow down. We can have ideas and desire to speed faster down the highway of life, but sometimes surprise surprise God has placed people in our lives to lead us. People who are disciplined and obey the law, people who perhaps can see something ahead that we, in our haste cannot.
So do you need to change lanes? Speed up? Or stay the course?
